I wrote a song about how I hated Wednesdays, and I played it at my school talent show. It definitely made people concerned for me, and a lot of my early songwriting was very sad and dark and involved things that I was miserable about as an 8-year-old, which I can't imagine I had much to complain about.

I spent a lot of stick seasons in Vermont in my early 20s, and I was always feeling kind of in-between things in my life - between love and losing love and moving on to the next thing. That spot where you're figuring out who you are and how to reconcile what's just ended with what's to come.

To think that there might be a generation of kids playing 'You're Gonna Go Far' at their graduation is an honor.
